Person-centred therapy / counselling / coaching is a well-established approach that’s as effective as other leading therapies or medication, yet with long-lasting change.
Unlike all other types of therapy, the person-centred approach is non-directive, meaning it helps you to see things confidently from within your own perspective. Because it works from the inside out, it is not dependent on medical diagnosis and related treatments. The original evidence-based approach, it was developed by psychologists rather than medical doctors.
This approach is also holistic: we can work with whatever you bring – your emotions, thoughts, dreams, behaviours or feelings.
Beware: many psychotherapists will tell you they work in person-centred way but actually do not work in this non-directive fashion. It is best to clarify how they work before spending time – and money – with them. For example, if they tell you what is wrong with you and what you should do about it, (and maybe give you forms to fill, exercises, or homework to do), they are not being person-centred.
