Keeping it simple, yet powerful…
Article authored by the ISPC
This is a very basic guide to helping you set up your Private Practice for the least amount of money. Wix is by far the most competitive in terms of price, scalability and ease of use.
If you would like a professionally built website by a team of Web designers please get in touch with Swarming Bee Web Design, they have helped dozens of our counsellors get started with the business side of Counselling.

Part 1: Sign up for a free Wix account
- Go to the Wix website. Navigate to
wix.com
and click the “Get Started” or “Sign Up” button. - Create your account. You have two options for registration:
- Enter your email and create a password.
- Sign up instantly using your existing Google or Facebook account.
Part 2: Start creating your new site
Answer introductory questions. Wix will ask you about the type of website you want to build (e.g., a business, portfolio, online store, or blog). Your answers help Wix suggest the most relevant features and templates for your needs.
Choose your creation method. Wix will give you two main options for building your site:
- Wix AI Website Builder: Answer a few more questions, and the AI will automatically generate a custom, functional website with text and images for you. You can still customise it afterward.
- Wix Editor: If you want more control, you can choose from over 900 designer-made templates. The drag-and-drop editor allows you to customise every element of your site.
Use the Wix Editor (if you chose it):
- Pick a template: Browse the hundreds of templates categorised by industry. Pick one that has the look and feel you want, as you can’t change the template later.
- Familiarize yourself with the dashboard: Before you start, take a moment to explore the Wix dashboard, which contains all the tools you’ll need.
Part 3: Design and customise your website
- Customize the content. Click on any text box to add your own copy and replace the default template text. Wix also has an AI tool to help with text generation.
- Add your media. Replace the placeholder images with your own photos or choose from Wix’s extensive library of free stock images.
- Adjust the design. Experiment with different colours, fonts, backgrounds, and layouts to match your brand.
- Add essential pages: Use the Pages & Menu tool to add pages such as “About Us,” “Services,” or a “Contact” page. You can also create sub-pages for dropdown menus.
- Add apps and features: The Wix App Market has hundreds of integrations to add new features, such as booking systems, online stores, or contact forms.
Part 4: Optimise and publish
Publish your site. When you are happy with the results, click the “Publish” button to make your site live for the world to see.
Check the mobile version. Switch to the mobile editor to ensure your site looks and functions perfectly on smartphones and tablets.
Add a custom domain (optional): By default, your free site will have a Wix URL (e.g., yourname.wixsite.com
). For a more professional look, you can purchase and connect a custom domain name.
Preview and test. Use the Preview button to see how your site will look to visitors. Check for broken links, typos, and ensure all buttons and forms work correctly.
- (Although this may seem like talking in code…. once you get started with the website and use the step by step guide it will become clear. Again if you want any professional help please get in touch with Swarming Bee Web Design)
